25 Years of Interior Design and 29 Years of Marriage

How Davis Ink Started — and the Secret Sauce That Keeps It Going

Davis & Andrea’s wedding day.

Long ago, we decided it would be a great idea to buy a house, grow our family, and open a business — all at the same time. Looking back, we're not sure what we were thinking, but we're glad we did it.

Davis started working from home, and we quickly realized that trying to get kids to nap while Dad is home working is a professional extreme sport. Whether it was a toddler testing their lung capacity during a client call or a diaper blowout right as we were heading out to a job site installation, we mastered the chaos fast. Two lessons came early: always bring a bag of spare clothes (never white), and always work as a team.

Eventually, Davis moved into a dedicated office space while Andrea held things down at home with the kids. We changed locations, grew the company, and never looked back. Today, we work under the same roof in our Interior Design studio — five talented interior designers strong — right in the heart of Costa Mesa, CA.

Restaurant design, nightclub design, and hotel design became our niche. We invested in ourselves and our company every single day, getting things done and pushing what's possible.

From the beginning, we wrote down exactly what we wanted Davis Ink to be: a positive, creative environment built around WTF Twist — the kind of spaces that make people stop in their tracks and ask, "Wait... how did they do that?"

We believe that if you love what you do, work stops feeling like a chore. Our goal has always been to create environments where people enjoy themselves and feel good — while experiencing something they've never seen before. We thrive on that "wow" moment — when someone walks into a project we've designed and just... smiles. That reaction never gets old.

We learned firsthand what worked and what didn't. Teamwork and positive energy keep projects on budget, on time, and beyond what clients expected when they hired us. We prioritize real relationships — with clients, yes, but also with the craftspeople, fabricators, and crews who show up and make the vision real.

The true Secret Sauce is surrounding yourself with people who love what they do, know how to problem-solve, and aren't afraid to think outside the box. The design world gives you the opportunity to create anything — and that's exactly what we do.

(We can't share the entire recipe, of course. Those special ingredients are what make us unique.)

The Secret Sauce of 29 Years Together

At the Del Mar Race Track.

So what's the secret to 29 years of marriage and 25 years as business partners?

Communication. Humor. And the drive to take on each day, no matter what it brings.

We've never made a major decision — for the family or the business — alone. It's teamwork at its finest. We feed off each other's ideas over morning coffee. Two cups usually covers it. Though Davis has his own ritual: grabbing his coffee and a donut while checking the surf every morning before work. The real secret sauce is laughing when your husband swears he didn't get a donut... even when the evidence says otherwise.

We're both a little weird, and we complement each other perfectly. We've raised three kids right here in Costa Mesa, all while keeping our interior design studio and retail store less than 10 minutes from home. Nature constantly inspires our designs and our travels. Doing research on new projects with your business partner who is also your life partner? That's a double bonus.

We're proud of what we've built — not just the spaces, but the life around them.

Here's to 25 more years of the WTF Twist and whatever chaos comes with it.
